HOW YOU CAN HELP!

Probably most of you have, at one time or another, signed a California ballot initiative petition. Despite the criticisms often leveled at ballot initiatives by those who would prefer we just leave everything up to the powers-that-be, we are actually quite fortunate to have a means of enacting laws directly by a vote of the people when our legislators have failed to listen to the will of the people.

THE DIFFERENCE
Often ballot initiative petitions are well-funded, and may even rely almost completely on the efforts of scores of paid signature gatherers. But because the decision was made to undertake this effort without accepting donations, or forming a political action committee, it requires a different level of commitment from each person who signs. It means asking yourself: "what can I do to further this goal, beyond providing my single signature?"

GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY
Yes, we're all busy, but every one of us knows we could easily get 5 other people to sign, probably in less than 10 minutes. Our experience is that everyone we approach is eager to sign - it's just a matter of getting it into their hands before February 28th ! In fact, with the 74 - 91% public support this initiative already has going for it, it is incredibly easy for ANYONE to fill up one 8xll signature page (12 signatures) - take it to work, to your neighbors, stand in front of your grocery store for 10 minutes, and & you've done it! You've just multiplied your vote by 12. You feel good about it, you go home and mail it in, and we're all a step closer to the goal.

Better yet, take one copy of the initiative, make 10 more copies, fill one up, and give the other nine copies to friends who do the same, or to businesses, churches, or other organizations - mail it to your sister in Chico, or your friend in Arcata, who you know supports this. If each recipient fills up one page, your efforts have now resulted in gathering 120 signatures. This is exponential growth, a pyramid scheme of political activity spreading out like a vast network. This is our vision.

YOU'RE 'IT'
And realizing that you're it is the shift that needs to occur. Busy as we all may be, it is no longer sufficient to hope that dedicated activists will save our world for us. We must do it ourselves, every one of us, and the world is waiting. Fortunately, we are not alone -- please join with others involved in this issue, and help multiply our effectiveness by doing just that little bit more. Together we can do it.
